The Man behind the name:[Soft Break][Soft Break]Elmer Back came from a very[Soft Break] small town in Kentucky hoping to make a better life for his family. [Soft Break]Little did he know many people his life would affect. He was the President of the Shipyard Union (PSA) and on the board of directors for the Arc of the Virginia Peninsula. The consumers of the Arc were his heart and soul and he did so very much to help keep the Arc up and running. He started our current program at the Arc under the name “Galaxy of Gifts”, and helped operate it until 5 days before he died. He could not stay away. Anytime anyone had a need, Elmer Back was there with open arms to fill that need, out of his own pockets. That was his joy in life. Elmer never asked for anything in return. Seeing the smiles he created was all he ever needed. He always stood in the background and that is why we are bringing him to the fore ground today.
Elmer always believed in helping anyone who would help themselves. That is what we believe also.
