Mercy Ships

Share Komlavi's Story of Grace I have always felt God watching over me.

Now I consider myself so blessed to have witnessed a life being transformed because of God’s watchful eye as I served with Mercy Ships. This story is so miraculous I feel I must share it with everyone I know!

If you have friends that would enjoy a story of God’s grace, share it with them now:

It all began when Catherine and Marty Schwebel, Chaplains aboard the Africa Mercy, were shopping in a local artisan market in Togo. They met a man named Komlavi who sold wooden sculptures. Struck by Komlavi’s beautiful work and his kind spirit, they purchased many of his pieces and told all their Mercy Ships friends to shop with him.

A few days later some crewmembers and I were at that same market, and as fate would have it we also happened to meet Komlavi.

As we discussed his work, he shared how important his eyesight was to his livelihood and how scared he was to be losing sight in one of his eyes. I took him over into the shade where I could see into his pupil better. Sure enough, I saw one of those dense, white cataracts.

I was so happy because Komlavi’s condition was treatable.

I wrote down the location of our screenings, and we agreed I would see him there in a couple days.

If you have friends or fellow church members who would care about Komlavi’s story, share it with them now.

Three weeks passed and Komlavi never arrived at our screening site. The patients we are serving have many challenges in their lives, and often something as basic as transportation can be an obstacle.

But God knows no obstacles.

As Marty and Catherine were walking on the ship one morning, they spotted Komlavi walking up. When they approached him, he handed them my note with the location for the screenings. They instantly knew he was in the wrong location, so they jumped in a Mercy Ships vehicle and drove Komlavi to the eye screening site.

By the end of the day Komlavi was cleared for surgery!

Had it not been for this incredibly fateful series of events, Komlavi’s vision would have never been restored.

Share this miraculous story of God’s work with your friends and family:
