Sir Lanka Orphanage

Published by Admin

The Sri Lanka Orphanage Fund’s vision is to act as a good steward of gifts, donations and contributions from philanthropically minded corporations, foundations, organizations and governments as well as from persons of every economic status world wide, to build and operate a village of cottages for children who were orphaned by the 2004 Tsunami.

In accordance with the Sri Lanka Orphanage Fund’s mission, a village consisting of ten, six-bedroom homes, are to be built on ten acres of land donated by the Amarasinghe brothers. Each cottage will be supervised by a trained, “father/mother” role model staff member, who will accept the responsibility for raising eight to ten children in a family like setting in one of the cottages. On completion, the orphanage staff will care for about one hundred children.

In addition to the cottages, the village will have a playground, a building housing administrative offices, classrooms, a small library, and multi-purpose room that can be used for indoor play, or as a gym or theater.

While the impetus for establishing the orphan’s village is the 2004 Tsunami, the village may also accept and provide care for children orphaned by other causes such as abandonment, disease, natural causes, accident, or the loss of parents or the inability of parents to care for their children
